You really can learn Internet Marketing for free, and it really is easy to do. Yes, it requires some work and some patience, but the tools are there for you to use if you are willing.
How To Learn Internet Marketing For Free
Internet Marketing is such a broad subject, it has many different subcategories:
- Article marketing
- Search Engine Marketing
- Video Marketing
- Local Marketing
Those four are just examples. Whether you want to focus on just one aspect, or you want to learn as much as you can about all of them, you need to be wary. There's so much misinformation online, differing opinions, and downright lies and scams, that it's easy to get confused.
The Internet is a free resource, if you put the time in, you can find everything you need to know. The problem is though:
There's more than one way to succeed with IM as well, so you could end up finding a mismatch of information and not knowing which route to take (A problem I first had).
The answer? Find a place that teaches a sound method and just follow it.
Learn from the experts, and follow the paths they took.
Can You Trust Everyone?
Unfortunately not. Internet Marketing attracts a lot of people looking to “Get rich quick”, and there are plenty of “Gurus” out there happy to take their money.
Rarely are these gurus ever providing real answers or solid advice.
You want to LEARN, but you are just helping them EARN.
Look for somewhere that doesn't over hype, doesn't promise “guaranteed earnings”, and let's you try for free first. That's the real sign of a promising environment to learn in.
That's what you get over at Wealthy Affiliate.
A free account for life (with the option to upgrade to premium if you want), no “promises” of earnings, and what's better, you get courses to follow. Step 1, Step 2, Step 3, Step 4, and so on.
It's designed to help beginners rather than rip them off.
My Tips For Learning Internet Marketing
It's a massive learning curve at the beginning, there are so many things to learn, and a lot of people make it out to be rocket science, with strategies and systems needed.
All you need to focus on is learning how to help people solve problems. That's it really.
Focus on people, not search engines and other “systems”.
Help solve problems?
Here's an example. Somebody wants to find a new partner but is terrible on first dates. They search for advice on first dates and find your website. You give them tips and help them feel confident about that date.
Maybe they come back later and buy a guide from you, or click on an advert on your site, or buy some other products you recommend.
Help people, get paid.
This is obviously a very simple version of it. You first need to build a site and get it ranking in the search engines (or having a social presence) so that people can find it, and this is where most people give up.
It takes time, and once you've learned to build your website, you want to see instant results.
You can always speed things up by buying one of our ready made websites, but if you'd rather stick to the free tools for now, Wealthy Affiliate is the place to go. It's free to get started.
It's where I learned everything.

There is A LOT of information out there about internet marketing, website creation, and how to make money. For a total newbie, it really does help to have a step by step process. I remember when I first got started, I didn’t really understand everything I did (especially the SEO stuff), but I did it anyway.
Well, things worked out in the end! Now I do it full time.
But I couldn’t have done it without a set of lessons to follow. I just don’t have the attention span and smarts to put everything together without a bit of help.
I was going to write something about attention spans…but I forgot what I was going to say.
How long did it take you to learn everything?
I can’t say I “know everything” because the industry is so huge and I work within such a tiny part of it. I’m constantly learning, and it’s the typical thing, of the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know.
I have plans on doing something “bigger” down the road, but I’m happy with my simple niche sites at the moment.
To get the basics down of how to build a profitable niche site…I would say I had an “aha” moment somewhere around 6 months. Before then, I was just going through the motions. In total, it took me a year and a half to quit my job, so the learning clearly gets faster as you press on.
Yeah that makes sense. There’s definitely a learning curve and I think a lot of people at the beginning are just following instructions and hoping it works (it does, depending on which instructions they’re following) and if they stick to it in the long term, being able to quit a job is a nice reward.
Took me about a year and a half as well to fully beat my work income.
